Event summary: BioSolve User Group Forum 2016

As the leaves started to fall from the trees in the iconic city of London, Biopharm Services hosted the 2016 BioSolve User Group Forum. BioSolve users from across the world came together to gain insight into a range of topics focused around cost estimation and technology evaluation in the bioprocess industry.

Now in its second year, the event built on the success of the inaugural forum with a selection of great speakers including Dr Richard Allmendinger (University of Manchester), Dr David Pollard (Merck Sharp Dohme), Dr Doug Sevon (Sanofi), Mr Paul Baduel (Sanofi Pasteur), Ms Priyanka Gupta (Sartorius Stedim) and Dr Alexei Voloshin (3M).

Optimization takes center-stage
Keynote speaker Dr Allmendinger spoke about algorithm modelling that can be used to optimize the output from BioSolve Process. In a related development, Biopharm Services and University of Manchester are pleased to announce that they have won a Knowledge Transfer Network grant for the development of an optimization tool using BioSolve Process. Special thanks go to Dr Allmendinger, as well as Dr Adriana Lopes and Alan Calleja from Biopharm Services, and everyone who supported this effort. We will keep you up to date with news as the project develops.

Biopharm’s Dr Lopes gave a presentation with Dr Yuhong Zhou (UCL) reviewing the growing trend of publications that use BioSolve Process, also sharing insight into how they expect BioSolve Process will be used further in future. Following their presentation, Biopharma’s Mr Calleja shared some deep insight into how BioSolve Process can be used for Continuous Process modelling – a subject that was well received by the audience, all of whom were keen to learn more about the new system.

The future
Biopharm CEO Andrew Sinclair and Dr Yuki Abe delivered a compelling view of the future of BioSolve Process, as well as the direction of BioSolve Connect. Dr Abe continued with insight into the new BioSolve Supplier Technology showcase that enables smoother and easier communication between supplier companies and the end user innovator companies. More detail on the supplier showcase is coming soon.

After long day at the meeting, attendees enjoyed a valuable networking session over dinner in the heart of Covent Garden.

The whole meeting was given an excellent wrap-up, delivered by Mr Baduel, who emphasised the importance of a collaborative approach that can help achieve many great things in the future.

Biopharm Services would like to thank everyone who attended as well as all our great speakers. We will share more interesting developments in the coming months, based on feedback we received from our users at the meeting.
